The problem:
The clunk manifests itself initially as a pop or a creak and you can usually hear it most when turning into a sloped driveway or when you stop/start in traffic. The sound is the subframe moving beneath you, it’s because the factory bolts have no shoulders to locate the subframe to the body and it is free to move around. The bolts only count on friction to keep the two surfaces planted, therefore over time the factory bolts lose tension and the subframe begins to move and then wear against the body. It’s bad news for that expensive alignment you spent out on and those super soft tyres you run. Every time you hear that clunk your subframe moves position because of this your geometry will never stay still.
The cure:
Fit the TyrolSport Deadset front subframe collar kit and fix your subframe in place. It features locating collars to ensure the subframe stays in place and does not shift under load. The design uses 954 Bronze alloy. It’s unique properties give just the right strength for this application and and fantastic corrosion resistance. Each collar is machined for a specific location on the subframe and is dual-sided for a perfect fit. The collars also have a recess to positively locate the bolt head and lock everything in tight.
Tyrolsport has worked with ARP to develop a better solution to the OEM bolt for this kit. It far exceeds the OEM tensile strength however mimics the OEM hardware in shear so is absolutely safe in the event of an accident. This is an important consideration when selecting your collar kit.
If you want to get real geeky, the fasteners also have a very special thread engagement area and a chamfered bull nose tip. The bull nose tip helps locate the bolt to the body and makes the installation process a breeze. Without this bull nose aligning and installing a subframe collar kit is much more difficult and you are prone to stripping threads.

What cars does it fit?
Works with all VW MK5 and 6 Golf, Jetta, Jetta GLI, GTI, and R32/Golf R. Audi A3 8P. VW Passat B6. VW Tiguan and pretty much all Seat/Skoda of a similar era. Select the standard kit for these applications.
Also fits MK2 Audi TT and TT RS applications so you can select the “Audi TT” option from the drop down menu. These vehicles require a slightly longer bolt set and different collars.
